Artificial Intelligence Collaborations and Opportunities

Announcement. Digital Office Team. 29.08.2023

We are currently working with The Alan Turing Institute to identify members of the Digital Partnership interested in piloting a training programme on ethical and safe AI innovation; Public Sector Guidance on responsible AI.

The programme is part of the Institute’s partnership with The Office for Artificial Intelligence, and the content expands on the UK Government’s official guidance on the responsible design, development and deployment of AI systems in the public sector.

Titled ‘AI ethics and Governance in Practice’, the series of eight practice-based workshops aim to equip organisations with the tools, training and support required to adopt state-of-the-art practices in responsible and trustworthy AI innovation and technology policy, steering public sector AI innovation ecosystems towards optimal benefit.

We are looking for local authorities to help pilot at least one of the workbooks, providing input and feedback to help shape the content of these resources.

Timeframes of the overall pilot and next steps:

  • September - November: piloting of the last four workbooks of the series. Identify potential participants of the Digital Partnership to partake in feedback and development workshops on agreed workbook(s).
  • October/November: the Alan Turing Institute will launch an interactive platform with the materials of the training programme. The first four workbooks (workbooks 1-4) will be made available at this time. All other workbooks (workbooks 5-8) will be made available at the start of 2024.
  • December/January: the team at the Institute will integrate the feedback and results from the piloting of the workbooks to develop the final versions of workbooks 5-8.

Early next year (month to be defined): launching of the cohort-based training programme.

The outputs of the Digital Office, Digital Maturity Assessments and the mapping of skills and gaps will help identify potential participants for the training programme. Depending on timings, the results could also inform the final version of workbooks 5-8.

If you would like to take part in these workshops and influence the direction of AI across local government and the wider public sector, please register your interest using the form below. We will agree the dates and focus of each session once we have an idea of participants.
